Children's Podiatry

What is Children's Podiatry?

Children's Podiatry, also known as Podopaediatrics, deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.

We believe that many symptomatic foot problems suffered by adults actually start during childhood but remain undetected.

Children’s Podiatry is important as early detection and treatment for many podiatric conditions can prevent more serious conditions occurring later.

What Does Children's Podiatry Cover?

Paediatric podiatrists offer a caring and child-friendly environment for the child and parent. Our children’s podiatry services offer advice and treatment for:

  • Flat Feet
  • Foot Or Tie Pain
  • In-toeing (pigeon Toes)
  • Knocked Knees
  • Child Podiatry Evaluation
  • Curly Toes
  • Toe Walking
  • Heel Pain
  • Warts
  • Knee Pain
  • Out-toeing
  • Osgood Schlatter Disease
  • Ingrown Toenails
  • Tarsal Coalition
  • Sever’s Disease

Symptoms that may Require a Podiatric Appointment

The sooner you address issues with your children’s feet, the more likely you are to achieve a positive outcome. If your child:

  • Regularly complains about pain in their feet or legs?
  • Shows signs of foot problems such as ingrown toenails, bunions or flat feet?
  • Is missing key developmental milestones when it comes to movement and walking?

Regular Child Podiatry Checks

Babies undergo regular checks for things like hearing and eyesight but very rarely are they checked for foot-related issues.

Our children’s podiatrists recommend that children should be screened for foot problems at regular intervals – we suggest at 12 months, 18 months, 3 years, 7 years and 12 years.

If there are no concerns about your child’s foot health, that’s good news.

About Child Podiatry Visits

We take the time to learn as much about your child before a diagnosis or develop plan is reached. We offer children’s podiatry consultations for children from the age of 12 months to 18 years.

We can prescribe orthotics, make footwear recommendations and recommend specific exercises as part of a treatment plan.

Our podiatrists work alongside a multidisciplinary team, so we can recommend treatment for a full range of conditions including plantar warts, eczema or psoriasis.
